Google’s Latest Core Algorithm Update- ‘The Medic Update’
On 1st August 2018, Google announced it had completed its latest core algorithm update. It has been nicknamed in the industry by some as ‘the medic update’.
Broadcasting the news on Twitter, Google Search Liaison announced that last week they released a broad core algorithm update.
This update is said to largely affect organic search engine rankings stating, “with any update some sites may note drops and gains”. Google has also been confirmed this algorithm update is Global, so every type of site could have been impacted.
In addition to this, it also appears to have affected local results I.e. Map Listings.
Google’s advise to safeguard your website from being affected was to have great content and “remain focussed on building great content”.
Create content that is unique, relevant and most importantly, that your audience finds useful. If you generate content with this in mind, then it’s more likely to increase the popularity of your website.
Despite a number of algorithm updates, Google admits it still values a popular website, so the more useful and interesting your content the more likely it is to be found in search results.
Google wasn’t too specific about particular issues that webmasters should address on their sites, other than focussing on the production of relevant content. Their audience will genuinely appreciate and find useful.
From what we understand this is part of Google’s vision to improve users experience on Google, which we saw Google promoting at their latest Marketing Innovation Keynote speech.
