With election day imminent, the campaigning from political parties is in full swing. With technology becoming increasingly intertwined in our everyday lives, the use of social media by Politicians has been harnessed more than ever before.

Politicians have taken to Twitter and Facebook to promote their manifestos in an attempt to gain votes in the election being held on Thursday 8th June 2017.

With the clever use of TV advertising, radio, printed material and now social media adding to that list, it’s hard not to notice the fiery debate between the Conservatives and Labour parties.

Social media over the recent weeks have been packed full of political videos, tweets, posts, even profile picture frames and rap battles?! The power of social media has meant that these messages are being seen on mass.

The office for National Statistics recently reported that 63% of adults used social media in their everyday lives. Social networking is widespread in all age groups, up to and including those aged 55 to 64, where 51% of adults reported use. Of those aged 65 and over, 23% used social networks. With stats like that social media is certainly something to consider!

By Politicians entering the digital space and by utilising social media specifically, means the reach of their messages is far greater. These messages are reaching audiences that previously may have not particularly taken a proactive interest in politics. By reaching out via platforms the public use so heavily, means messages can be broadcast into even more homes.

The public are now able to share, comment, like and truly engage with political parties that were once limited to traditional ways to market, what is principally their brand. The public are assisting in the canvassing of the political parties and by liking, commenting and even sharing these messages and as a result their messages are distributed and see by even more people.

Political parties have adapted to the change to the digital world and can you blame them? We are witnessing the shift into a more digital age, and with this is mind why wouldn’t you do the same for your business?

By utilising social media, you increase your audience twofold and done carefully can work wonders for your brand. Embrace the change, go digital and see your audience and enquiries grow. In the words of Socrates “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new”.
